Kostiv, Kostiantyn, b 1917 in Rivne, Volhynia. Sociologist, researcher of religious movements in Ukraine, translator; full member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society and a lecturer at the Ukrainian Technical and Husbandry Institute. A postwar refugee, he studied at Erlangen University and the Ukrainian Free University and received doctorates in philosophy and law. He is the author of works about Metropolitan I. Ohienko as a translator of the Bible (1950), the Reformation (1956), and the constitutional acts of the UNR and the Hetman government (1964); a Ukrainian biblical reference book (1971); the religious-sociological study Knyhy buttia ukrains’koho narodu (Books of Existence of the Ukrainian People, 1980); and a Ukrainian dictionary of biblical figures, tribes, and peoples (1982).
